The BC Deaf Sports Federation (BCDSF) is a non-profit Organization functioning as the umbrella for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes in Bristish Columbia.

BCDSF's mandate includes:

  • establishing and maintaining contact with all deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes in British Columbia
  • promoting awareness and acceptance of deaf athletes nationally and provincially
  • developing interest among all deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes and supporters in competitive and recreational sports
  • providing services and support in areas of competition, training, counseling, and administration
  • providing a variety of sport opportunities in which to participate

Long-term goals are:

  • to contact all Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes in BC
  • to increase public awareness of BC Deaf Sports
  • develop interest in competitive and recreational sports among all Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes and supporters
  • to further strengthen the organization

BCDSF was established in Vancouver in February 1975 in response to the need for a provincial deaf sports organization in British Columbia (B.C.) and to enable us to send representatives to the Canadian Deaf Sports Association and to organize Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes of all ages in B.C. on the provincial level by encouraging them to participate in both competitive and recreational sports at provincial, national, and international levels. BCDSF then became incorporated in 1978.

Ever since, provincially, Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes who show the ability and capacity for hard work have been encouraged to try out on the national level for the right to represent Canada at the Deaflympics, both Summer and Winter events. Additionally, we encourage all Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes to participate in the BC Summer and Winter Games and in the BC Games for Athletes with a Disability.

Currently our membership extends to 700 members province-wide.

BCDSF is a registered charitable organization that will provide tax deductible receipts upon donations.

BCDSF also is an affiliate under BC Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch at Boardwalk Bingo .
